Using the IR-Eye
The IR-eye is a distinctive feature of the CubicMeter, providing enhanced durability while maintaining the full functionality of a traditional button.
The function of the IR-eye depends on the active state of the CubicMeter.
The CubicMeter has the following states:
HELLO
Set pipe
Metering
HELLO state
This is how the CubicMeter is delivered, with the IR-eye covered and the LCD displaying HELLO.
In this mode, you can:
Store/transport the CubicMeter
💡This is the most energy efficient state on the CubicMeter
In this state you can't:
Set the pipe type and dimensions
Join a network
Once you remove the sticker covering the IR-eye, the CubicMeter will enter Set pipe state.
Set pipe state
This is the state where the pipe type and size can be set on the device. The different available pipe types and sizes will be shown on the LCD and the IR-eye will need to be covered to make a selection.
In this state you can:
Set the pipe type and dimensions
Join a network
Return to HELLO state
60 seconds after the pipe type and dimension is selected, the device will display the flow rate in l/h.
If the device is left in the set pipe state for more than one hour, it will switch to showing the total water usage (in cubic meters, m³) instead of the flow rate. Now the device has entered Metering state.
This video provides tips for the following situations:
Setting the pipe
Returning to HELLO
Is the device is stuck in HELLO
⚠️ HELLO state can only be reset while in the Set pipe state, after the pipe setting is set, only a downlink can reset the device to HELLO.
Please note that other reflective objects can be used for activation.
Metering mode
The Metering state on the CubicMeter (CM) refers to the normal operational state where the device measures and records water flow and usage data after the pipe has been properly selected during installation. In this state, the CubicMeter continuously monitors water consumption, leak detection, and other relevant metrics, such as flow rate and water temperature.
In this mode you can:
Send uplinks by pinging the IR-eye
Join / change networks
Primarily, the IR-eye is utilized for device configuration by authorized users during production. It also interacts with the reflective IR sticker to determine the type of water pipe used during installation.
The optical eye can also trigger a LoRaWAN message when the sticker is held over it for 10 seconds and is utilized for pulse count output (1 pulse per liter) in legacy wired applications, a feature that is enabled by default.
